Terraria and Starbound

Image
I mentioned earlier that Terraria is my favourite indie game. It'll take a whole lot of oomph for another title to take that position for me. I've been watching Starbound for quite some time now, and I'm super excited about it. Check out this video comparing it to Terraria: Can't wait to see what these guys have for us!

The new Sim City - I still like it

Image
I was one of the people who pre-ordered Simcity. I was desperate for a good City Building game. I was (and still is) a huge fan of Simcity, Simcity 2000, Simcity 3000, Simcity 4 and it's Rush Hour expansion. So I found myself super excited when they announced that they're making a new one! Anyway, the one thing that bugged everyone is the always online requirement thing. I must admit, I'm not too fond of it myself, and I was especially annoyed with it right in the beginning, where I had stages that I couldn't connect, or have lost hours of work I pushed into a city... I decided to let the game "settle" for a few months, and installed it again this week. So far, it's been smooth sailing! Plus, this morning a new update was released, number 7. It allows for some neat additions for laying roads - you can now lower and raise roads, which makes for some interesting layouts. Here's a screenshot I borrowed from their site: Also, there are 4 new relig...

My favourite indie game: Terraria

Image
The last few years a lot of Indie developers have started popping up all over the place. The most popular one is probably Minecraft, which spawned a wave of other developers all trying to get their piece of the pie. I have huge respect for each and every indie developer, and I try my best to support them as far as I can! One of the best investments of $10 I've made in the last two years is buying Terraria: It has come a very long way since being first released. One thing that did count in Terraria's favour is Notch tweeted to his millions of followers to check it out, resulting in 200000 sales in the first 2 weeks if I remember right. It's similar to Minecraft in that you mine blocks and can build all kinds of things with those block - main difference though is that this is a 2D platformer, whereas you know Minecraft is a 3D game... My wife is always surprised that I like this game so much, she just can't understand the appeal. My best explanation for that ap...

My Fractal Define R4 Titanium PC Chassis - part 1

So, I decided to finally ditch the old Aerocool chassis I've had for the last 6 odd years. I never liked it to be honest, don't really know why I bought it in the first place. Anyway, after looking at lots and lots of PC cases, the Fractal R4 drew my attention the most. It's a very plain case, no lights or fancy curves and lines like that, just a very good looking stylish design. So I also watched several videos on Youtube about it, and read tons of reviews - my conclusion was that this is probably the best case you can get for the price range. I bought it through Pinnacle Micro here in South Africa. It cost me about R1150 (that's about $110) - now I'm a reseller (you can only buy from Pinnacle if you're registered as a reseller with them...), so it'll probably retail for about R1400 or so... Like a kid with a new toy I immediately opened the box when I got home, only to discover no box with screws or manual or anything like that. Which was weird, I...

Intro

Image
I've realised I always do an intro post as my first blog post. Anyway, this time is no different... I got my very first PC when I was 8 years old (it was actually the "family pc"), back in 1990. It was an old XT machine with one of those 4 colour orange and brown monitors. It ran DOS 3.3 (very sophisticated I know), and it had a 360k floppy drive, with a whopping 20MB hard drive. With it came some pre-installed games - Sopwith, Pinball, Blackjack and a few others. After school I went to study programming, mostly Delphi stuff, and since 2007 I've been running my own freelance web design company. Just me, no employees thank goodness (tried that once, the kid was so frikken lazy I fired him). Anyway, I like gadgets and gaming and technology. I mostly game on a PC, but I have an Xbox as well. My PC specs aren't the best, but I get along with it: Core i5 650 (3.2Ghz) CPU MSI Fuzion Motherboard (don't know why I bought this one...) 12Gigs of RAM Asus GeFo...
