My top 3 Free to Play - Part 2: Infinity Wars

Image
I've always quite liked CCG - that is, Collectible Card Games - I am a huge fan of Magic the Gathering and a have a huge box full of cards. I don't, unfortunately, play as much as I'd like though. Anyway, Infinity Wars just released their beta on Steam, click here for their website  - also, check out this short intro video on what the game is about: Firstly, I always like it when developers take a tried and tested game mechanic, but add a few twists and things like that of their own. Infinity Wars is a prime example of what I mean - firstly, instead of actually taking turns to play your game, and have several phases through which each turn goes, both players now play their cards at the same time. You cannot see what the other player is playing though, so that immediately introduces some form of surprise. Also, the battlefield consists out of several zones: There are four zones in total - Command, Support, Assault and Defense. Whenever you play a card, it...

My top 3 Free to Play - Part 1: Path of Exile

Image
Ahh Free to Play - this always conjures up an image in my mind of micro-transactions that are inevitably needed to win the game, and sometimes even costing more in the end that some major AAA titles out there. EA is a huge culprit in this area, with the new mobile version of one of my favourite classics, Dungeon Keeper. I haven't played it, and I don't intend on playing it. Apparently the cost of moving things along is just beyond ridiculous, but quite frankly, I didn't expect anything less from EA. Luckily, their dumbass decisions have caused many awesome games to sprung up that are so-called Free to Play, and NOT Pay to Win. This is a really awesome way of actually going at the whole free to play model. You have this really awesome game that anyone can play in full, and actually complete the game without paying a cent (or be worried that you'll be up against other people who are way more powerful than you just because they have huge wads of unwanted money lying ar...

How to play Civilization by Email

Image
A friend and I finally killed all the bosses and got all the nice loot and stuff in Terraria, so we were looking for something to play on our weekly gaming night session, so we decided to do some heavy strategy for a change, and ended up playing Civilization 5. We started our game, and at first it went great. The only thing that bothered me though, was that while playing, the human player do their turn at the same time. And you won't believe me when I say this, but have you ever tried playing a turn based game with lag? Oh my word does it suck, at some stage our ping was in the double digits, and I mean seconds here (if only it was milliseconds!). So, we played our game until about the late 1800's, but couldn't take it anymore, and stopped. I was looking all over the internet for lag fixes and things like that, even doing my Borderlands 2 VPN trick didn't help much here. We have also always been looking for a play by email game, and I came across an awesome servi...

Galaxy Note 3 Camera: Panorama shots

Image
I've had my Galaxy Note 3 for just under two months now, and the wife and I just went to Europe on a Mediterranean cruise. I took my phone with, and took quite a few panoramas. I was very impressed with them, but don't take my word for it, have a look for yourself: I didn't touch up or edit any of them. Not too shabby at all!

Star Citizen: Official Anvil Aerospace Hornet Commercial

I've been keeping an eye on this game since they started making it. It has just reached a whopping $24 million in crowd funding, the biggest crowd funded game ever. The guys are very clever in that they've kept the channels open for more people to help fund the game. The video below shows off one of the ships you can fly in the game, and damn that Cry Engine graphics is really looking amazing! I must admit, I've been a tad skeptical about this game, but after seeing this I literally found my jaw hanging open! It's absolute eye candy, and I can't wait to see the end result of this game. And at the rate they're going in terms of funding, I'm sure they'll meet more and more stretch goals as time goes by and make the game even bigger and better! Anyway, treat yourself to the awesome footage below: Pretty sweet hey! Check out there site here:  https://robertsspaceindustries.com/

Galaxy Note 3 - Writing with the S-pen

Image
Yesterday the wife and I got our hands on our awesome new phones - the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - boy oh boy are we impressed! So far we've both been tinkering and playing with the phones a lot! And even the wife, who used to have an iPhone 4, is totally converted! One feature I'm really enjoying so far is the stylus, or S-pen as Samsung has dubbed it. It works very well indeed! One of the features you can enable for the S-pen is that you can write instead of type using the onscreen keyboard - it is a feature that you have to enable before it works, and here's a quick run down on how to do just that: Go to Settings (easiest way to do that is press the bottom left button (next to the physical home button) while on the home screen, and tap on Settings): Tap on Controls at the top, bringing you here: Here tap on Language and Input Then the cog next to Samsung Keyboard Scroll down, and toggle Pen detection That's it, now anytime you have the...
